Mark J. Gilbert, CPA/PFS, MBA and principal with Reason Financial Advisors, Inc. was a speaker at the Illinois CPA Society’s May 23 Business Owners Exit Planning conference at the Donald C. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. This inaugural conference presentation was unique as it brought together business owners as well as professionals in the fields of business valuation, mergers and acquisitions, technology, personal financial planning, law and accounting to show how all these areas are impacted as a business owner considers his or her ownership succession strategies.
Gilbert moderated a panel discussion on personal financial planning considerations that business owners should address in planning a successful sale or other transition of their business.
The conference also featured an ongoing role play in which a business owner assembles a team of advisors to help him plan a successful sale of his business to an outside buyer. Gilbert served as the financial planner who presents a comprehensive financial plan before the sale of the business, as well as manages the client’s investment accounts after the sale of the business.
Initial response from the conference attendees has been positive, including comments like:
“Case study format was a very effective way to illustrate the flow of a deal.”
“Very well done program. It was organized very well and covered many interesting topics.”
“This program was wonderful because of the presenters. They were tremendous.”
