Reason Financial Advisors announced today that Mark J. Gilbert of Downers Grove has joined the fee-only financial planning and investment management firm as a principal. Gilbert, a long time DuPage County resident, was most recently a senior financial planner with a registered investment advisory firm affiliated with a large regional bank in Chicago.
Mark’s professional career included serving as a principal of Successful Financial Solutions, a registered investment advisory firm also located in Northbrook. Previously he was executive director of a municipal deferred compensation retirement plan with over 9,000 participants, as well as treasurer and controller of two privately held, international professional service firms based in Chicago.

Mark became a Certified Public Accountant in 1982 shortly after graduating with high honors from the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy. In 1983 he received his MBA in Finance from the University of Michigan. With his career evolving into personal finance, Mark was awarded the American Institute of CPA’s Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation in 1999 and he recently completed the Certified Financial Planner™ education program through the College for Financial Planning which qualifies him to sit for the CFP™ certification examination.
Mark currently chairs a special interest group of the Illinois CPA Society that is responsible for developing education programs for Illinois CPAs and others in the personal financial planning and investment advisory community.
