Chicago Area Financial Planners Participate in Money Smart Week

For the past eight years, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago has sponsored Money Smart Week in the metropolitan area to support financial education.

This year’s event was held the week of April 18 and the Financial Planning Association of Illinois was proud to again participate in the activities

On Monday, April 20, Terry Savage, a well known author and financial journalist addressed a large group of consumers in the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium at the Chicago Public Library Harold Washington Center on Financial Planning for Everyone.

Following Ms. Savage’s presentation, over 25 area financial planners provided free one-on-one planning sessions with program attendees.”This was the third year I participated in the event,” said Patrick Doland, a fee only financial planner from the northern suburbs. “I enjoy having the opportunity to meet many of the attendees who may otherwise not seek out a planner.” It also allowed me an opportunity to meet with one of my clients following the event who works within several blocks of the library.

“I met with a gentleman who told me he intends to establish a foundation for struggling playwrights,” Doland stated. “I enjoyed our discussion and was happy to provide him some direction on the steps he’ll have to take to get it established.”

Doland is a principal of Reason Financial Advisors in Northbrook. The firm works with many individuals and families on the north shore including Glencoe, Winnetka, Lake Forest and Wilmette. He has just completed serving for the past two years as president of the Financial Planning Association of Illinois’ North Shore Council.
