Northbrook Financial Planner Featured in Yahoo Finance Article

Patrick Doland, a principal with Reason Financial Advisors in Northbrook, was recently interviewed by Yahoo Finance for an article entitled “This Is One Social Security Document You Don’t Want to Toss. The Social Security Administration announced on April 19, 2014 that they would resume mailing earning statements to workers at ages 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, and 60. In 2011 they suspended mailing annual statements under budget pressure and individuals were required to go online to determine their projected benefits, but only 6% of workers signed up to do so.

Doland was quoted in the article as stating “Paper statements can give workers just the wake-up call they need to kick-start their retirement savings plan. Without that statement, there is no triggering event that causes people to think about Social Security income.” When to apply for Social Security is an important decision and Doland provides his clients with a Social Security Benefits Optimization Report.

“Some of our clients,” Doland stated, “are fortunate to have a pension, but a growing number of individuals need to increase the size of their investment portfolio to generate additional retirement income.
